This past month has been busy with a concert every weekend and plenty of other activities in between. My fall so far has been complete with camping trips, coffee dates, and long runs in the country. That's right, I have been taking longer runs than ever before. I have had a "life goal" to one day run a marathon, and a few months ago I discovered my golden opportunity. I have a flexible schedule, great training weather, a training partner and an event to train for. My friend and I will be running 26.2 miles for the first time in our lives on November 5th. I was nervous about accomplishing this goal in the beginning, but I try to frequently have challenges in my life that I just don't know that I can accomplish. I am pleased to say that my body is holding up well, and my determination is making this goal a reality (not to mention the accountability of my stellar running buddy). I think the mental training is even more beneficial than the physical training. That extra push that makes me sprint at the end of an 18 mile run is the same push that I will need when my relationships require more work, or when my next goal seems impossible. So if you think of us on November 5th and have a little empathy for this goal we are attempting, please lift up a word of blessing to get us through. I hope you all can take a moment to breath deeply the scent of decaying leaves, straw from the wagon ride, cinnamon and apples from your hot cider and the remnants of your recently carved pumpkin. Soak up the fall.
